3. Course contents *

This course's aim is to introduce students to comparative politics. The basic idea is that we can only understand our own political context if we can put it in perspective, thus have knowledge of other countries. However, the emphasis will be on concepts and not, in the first place, countries. On the basis of the most important concepts and institutions in comparative politics the practice and theory of liberal democracies will be discussed and evaluated. This course discusses a wide range of topics, among others: state formation, the political system, the electoral system.
