3. Course contents *

This course focuses on the knowledge and skills needed to communicate effectively as a legal practicioner in spoken and written language and to read texts and articles in English concerning legal, political and current topics. Legal vocabulary and grammar are the building blocks of this course and will get a fair amount of attention. Especially grammatical items that are important in spoken and written discourse will be dealt with (such as the different tenses, especially the difference between present perfect and past simple, the conditional, adverbs and adjectives and linking words). Using texts and articles that have a connection with the legal world, students will get acquainted with the specific legal jargon and constructions that are frequently used in this context. At the same time they will actively apply this knowledge in an oral presentation, class discussions and writing exercises.

During classes the language of instruction is English. Students are expected to speak English at all times.
