Within the accounting domain, this course is concerned with providing information to people in the organization which is useful for decision making and control.
In the first part of the course the student will be introduced to a whole range of costing techniques which are used in organizations to determine the cost of a specific cost object (= product, service, client, region, department in a company). In the second part of the course the student will become familiar with those techniques in which cost and revenue information is used for decision making purposes. Attention will be paid to short-term decision making as well as long-term strategic planning.
The third part of the course focuses on the role of the management control system in an organization. Students will learn about different control mechanisms and performance indicators which are used to evaluate the performance of a company and of its employees.
