- Basic knowledge of Matlab (software)
- Basic matrix manipulations (sum, product, transpose, inverse, solving sets of simultaneous equations)
- Basic vector and plot creation
- Writing simple matlab functions

- Basic knowledge of calculus (the concept of a derivative)
- Basic knowledge of descriptive statistics
- continuous and discrete random variables
- probability functions
- central moments up to 2nd order

- BE1/BE2/BT1 - EI-K1/EI-K4: The student is able to use basic knowledge concerning the foundations (concepts and properties) of image processing.
- BE1/BE2 – EI-K1/EI-K4: The student is able to apply the basic techniques of image processing to simple examples.
- BE3 – EI-K1/EI-K4: The student is able to use the basic techniques of image processing in algorithms to solve simple image processing problems.

The following topics wil be treated:

- Sampling, geometric transformations and interpolation
- Quantization, intensity transformations and spatial transformations
- Light and color modelling
- Mathematical morphology of images
- Image segmentation
- Image sensors and actuators (optional)

The course has an international dimension.
