3. Course contents *

During the lectures, the following topics will be discussed: a) pericyclic reactions (cycloadditions, elektrocyclic reactions and sigmatropic rearrangements), b) carbenes and nitrenes, c) stereoselective reactions, d) protective groups, e) combinatorial chemistry.

The lab consists of experiments that will be performed in the Organic Synthesis research group, where the student will work together with a PhD-student. This gives the student a clear view on performing research within the field of organic chemistry. The student will carry out optimized reactions that are relevant to the research of the PhD-student he/she works with. The student will have to fully characterize the synthesized products by means of spectroscopic methods. Also the use of important literature databases such as SciFinder is emphasized.
