By the end of this course:
- The student has a basic understanding of the literary, historical, ideological, and cultural context of the Third Reich and the GDR.
- The student develops a profound understanding of the specific problems of writers and their literature in totalitarian regimes.
- The student is able to use the theoretical concepts for the description, analysis, and categorization of texts and authors during the period of the Third Reich and the GDR.
- The student is able to contextualize and interpret recurrent themes in literature written under Nazi rule and in the communist era, and is able to critically reflect upon scientific literature on these themes.
