3. Course contents *

In this course we will immerse ourselves in the chivalric epics and romances of the 13th and 14th century, with special attention for texts which only survived in fragmentary form. In class actual research projects of the teacher will be discussed. This involves a fragment written by the so-called Ferguut Scribe of a Alexander romance (this fragment was donated in 2019 to the Special Collections of the University of Antwerp). Students will also work (individually or in pairs) on their own projects on lesser known epics or romances. The aim is to create a group blog with citations, translations, discussions and suggestions for further research.

Note 2020-2021: If necessary by the corona measures, individual projects will be replaced by a common project, for example around a new translation of the Roman van Limborch.
