3. Course contents *

During 5 lecture sessions, students learn the basic principles of digital communication, in particular we discuss the OSI model and apply it to a selection of

commonly used serial bus architectures such as RS232, PCI express, thernet and I2C.

The remaining contact hours are spent on a concrete data acquisition project of in the following categories:

- programming a microcontroller in the context of a measurement and control application

- programming and synthesyzing firmware on a FPGA

- setting up a data logging system connected to a measurement device
