Concepts and models of the ecology of infections in natural populations and interactions with the host (animals as well as plants). Density- and frequency-dependent transmission. The meaning of R0. Effects of immunity on transmission. SIR and related models. Dispersion and dispersal of infections in populations, differences in this respect between micro- and macroparasites. The role of vectors and alternative hosts. Effects of infection and disease on host populations. Environmental effects (incl. climate change) on transmission and distribution of infections. Spatial patterns of infection. Emerging infectious diseases.

Exercises with different kind of models (static and dynamic epidemiological models, rule based models).
