About 800.000 species of insects have been described! A tantalizing number! Not surprisingly insects display an incredible diversity and an almost endless list of intriguing characteristics and traits. The Entomology course aims at a multidisciplinary  approach (taxonomy, morphology, physiology, behavioural ecology, evolution, …) with focus on integrating knowledge and understanding based on various research disciplines. The lecture session include frequent discussion sessions to encourage students to actively take part and exchange knowledge. In short, an overview is provided on the biodiversity of insects, the characteristics that underlie the success of insects, communication, interactions between predators and parasites, life-history and development, reproduction, plant-insect interactions and nature conservation.
