3. Course contents *

The following topics are discussed: 1. different (advanced) forms of electron microscopy, 2. scanning probe and atomic force microscopies, 3. FTIR and Raman microscopes and 4. molecular fluorescence microscopy.

These methodes are being user to an increasing extent to characterize newly synthesised materials, either as part of development programmes or during routine production. On the basis of the micro- and nanoscopic information that is obtained in this manner, further development or control of the production of these materials is possible.

Both methods that yield atomic, moleculair or structural information at the mico- and nanolevel are discussed.
