3. Course contents *

Homogeneous catalysis is an important field within organic chemistry and is widely applied within the fine chemicals industry. In this course, the fundamental principles of homogeneous catalysis will be described, along with an overview of the most paramount representatives. Since catalysis is a key process making chemistry more sustainable, also the principles of green chemistry will be discussed. The key steps which are required in upscaling an organic reaction will be shown based on a series of homogeneously catalyzed reactions. At last, Janssen Pharmaceutica (Geel) will be visited in order to present the students a lifelike demo of the course material.
