3. Course contents *

 

The course consists of a number of lectures explaining the basics of landscape ecology. This is followed by a practical part that consists of the following parts:
*analysis of documents (maps and litertaure) of the study area resulting in a synthethic, hierarchical map indicating the different homogeneous landscapes and a description of this different units: what is characteristic and how did this units evolve in geological times and what was the human activity leading to the present landscape.
* fieldwork: recogizing and describing in the field the different landscape units defined in the previous phase
*integration of both in a final landscape ecological description of the study area
* the course if finalised with an excursion, covering the different study areas, where the students themselve give all the explanations about their study area
