Project based learning
During the interdisciplinary project-course module, students are involved in analysing and solving a real-life problem proposed by an existing organisation. Students are part of a self-regulating team, comprised out of 6 students and one tutor, responsible for both analysing the problem situation and planning, developing an implementing a scientifically grounded solution. In order to accomplish this, students organise weekly team-meetings with their project groups. At least once every semester students, tutor and representatives of the organisation supplying the problem, gather to discuss the progress of the project.
During the academic year students can also take part in 4 workshops, focussing on specific aspect of the problem solving process:
- Planning and managing a project
- Organising meetings and managing a team
- Writing convincing project-papers
- Orally presenting project results
Learning is central in this project-based course. Therefore students are not assessed on whether they solved the problem, but on the quality and professionalism of their problem solving process.
The problems students face contain both a research and an implementation component. To reach this, Students must integrate and transfer knowledge, insights and skills attained in other course-modules to this problem solving process.
