In the course Food and Dietetics II different diets and food products related to specific pathologic conditions (e.g. diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, ...) and to populations with specific physiologic needs (e.g. baby's, elderly, pregnancy, ...) are discussed. Apart form dietary advice, attention is drawn to specific dietary products (energy content, nutrient composition, instructions for use, ...).
During the seminar different aspects of nutraceuticals and functional foods are discussed: legislation, safety, quality. Different classes of bioactive ingredients (e.g. phytosterols, omega-3 fatty acids, glucosamine, phyto-oestrogens, ...) which are frequently formulated as food supplements, are discussed.
