3. Course contents *

This course examines the place of history in the broader field of the social sciences and humanities. We investigate the uniqueness and added value of history through a confrontation with the paradigms and practices in adjoining disciplines such as economics, sociology and anthropology. Specifically, we analyse the interaction between history writing and the concepts and approaches of such household names as Pierre Bourdieu, Clifford Geertz, Anthony Giddens, Marchall Sahlins and Bruno Latour. The ultimate aim is a better understanding of the scientific and also societal relevance historical research.
