3. Course contents *

In connection to the research by the Renaissance department of the ISLN, practically unstudied texts from Dutch literature from the sixteenth and seventeenth century will be scrutinized from different angles. Several aspects of research will pass under review like edition, situating in a literary historical context, referential, genological, and book history aspects.  We go out from the text looking for the meaning and the function of the text and of the song book as a whole. By working concentrically students also get to know other texts and other genres. Each student will do a part of the research and present his results to come to a global synthesis in the form of a joint research report. Mainly song books and plays will  be the object of  research.

In the year 2008-2009 songs from the Brabandts Nachtegaelken (1650) and the Brussels Moeselken (1659) will be studied. Especially the songs relating to Brussels will be studied more closely aiming at a publication and maybe a CD.
