Project

The students work in teams on a project in the context of (doctoral) research in industrial biotechnology. This means that during the project bioprocesses are carried out in which micro-organisms such as yeasts, fungi, bacteria or micro-algae, or enzymes are producing chemicals. These products can be fine chemicals, biopolymers, biofuels or cells. In addition, enzymatic processes, such as, saccharification of biomass, are also included in the field of industrial biotechnology. These processes are carried out in bioreactors in which the evironmental conditions (pH, T, or O2) are monitored and / or controlled. These processes will also be followed-up by offline measurements of microbial growth, enzyme activity, sugar concentration, ....
The students work out a proposal for timing and planning, and bring their results in a report. A short discussion of the report based on a presentation will follow.
