Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas have used very early the enigmatic concept of habitus to refer to artistic proficiencies, including the act of reading. Pierre Bourdieu has taken over this concept with a new meaning in his essays on taste during the seventies. More recently, Peter Sloterdijk has restaured the more original meaning in his book You must change your life (2011 German edition), proposing it as an exercise with a cultural outstanding achievement. Within this perspective we will investigate what the reading of fiction means for us today, what the habitus of reading would involve for philosophers in this century and what kind of endeavor it proposes to new generations who tend to read a wide range of different objects wich are not necessarily books.
