3. Course contents *

NL-EN
The students practise all the linguistic and cognitive skills required to bring a Dutch-English consecutive interpreting session to a good end, including note-taking techniques.

EN>NL

The consecutive interpreting technique is acquired step by step:
a. memory exercises;
b. oral delivery of a short speech without notes;
c. use of notes for short speeches: focus on text structure;
d. summarising;
e. oral delivery in Dutch: extensive attention to speaking skills and presentation;
f. delivery of increasingly longer, more difficult and faster speeches.

Exercises/speeches deal with various topics (improvised speeches, written speeches or recordings of real-life speeches). Students are also encouraged to prepare speeches.
