3. Course contents *

The course builds on the insights obtained during the bachelors, as well as in sociology in general and in sociology of law in particular. By reading important and up to date writings we will focus on certain ‘ capita selecta ’ .

 

At first writings regarding sociology of law as a subspecialty get a chance. The essence of sociology of law as an empirical science is on one hand the analysis of the social origination of law, and on the other hand the social functioning of law. Subsequently we focus on the, for law, relevant problems and institutions. By looking at a case study, will be provided into a dossier of mediation or sociological themes will be explored (e.g. the configuration of parties in a trial).

 

 

A selection is made among specific items : the sociology of law as an analysis of the social origination and the social functioning of law; the sociology of law as a regulation instrument; the sociology of law as an instrument of dispute control; the sociology of law as a corporation; the sociology of law for citizens, law and culture and confidence in law and institutions.
