3. Course contents *

The goal of this course is to make students familiar with terms such as radio-isotopes, radiopharmaceuticals, radioactive waste, interaction of ionising radiation with matter and measuring radioactivity, as well as production of radio-isotopes, medical use of radiopharmaceuticals for therapy and diagnosis and specific legislation concerning radiopharmaceuticals.

In the practical part of this course, students are made familiar with the preparation and analysis of 99mTc labeled radiopharmaceuticals and the elution of a 90Mo/99mTc- generator, as well as the production and quality control of 18F-FDG. Furthermore, the identification of unknown isotopes with gammaspectrometry and specific cases related to radioactive waste and output of 99Mo/99mTc generator and cyclotron production, will be discussed.
