3. Course contents *

The technique of consecutive interpretation is acquired step by step:
a. memory exercises;
b. oral delivery of a short speech without notes;
c. using notes to write down short speeches: extensive attention to text structures;
d. summarising;
e. oral delivery in Dutch: extensive attention to speaking skills and presentation;
f. delivery of increasingly longer, more difficult and more rapidly pronounced speeches.

Exercises are organised on various topics presented in speeches (improvisation, speeches based on texts or recordings of actual speeches). Students are also stimulated to prepare speeches. Mock conferences are regularly organised in order to simulate professional interpretation as closely as possible. After each exercise students will be given extensive feedback of their performance (partly also using audio and video recordings).
