3. Course contents *

The master thesis is initiated from different surveys and design studios. The autonomy of the student is a central focus. The master thesis is based on the design and research skills that students have developed in the first master year. Students set out independently the design and planning of the thesis and implement them, taking into account flanking support and guidance from a research priority and a supervisor/promoter - and possibly a co-supervisor. The procedure is controlled by a master's thesis regulation. This regulation sets the criteria and regulates the organization of discussions between (feedback) and evaluations. The diversity of the research focus of the master's thesis will sometimes be more design-based or more theoretical-research-based - or be a hybrid, design research - oriented output.

For the materialization of their designs, analysis, … in the form of models, work pieces, ... students are able to realize this work in the studio and model-labs of the University of Antwerp. If the student wishes to use a tool, a machine, ... this is only possible with the permission and consent of the model-lab responsible. In some cases, the student will not be able to use a tool but after following a specific course. The student must follow the stipulated agreements and safety regulations.
