3. Course contents *

In this course we inquire into the organizational principles of conversations and texts, with application to Dutch. We will start out from a few theories and models in the international literature, including speech act theory, politeness theory,  conversation analysis, discourse analysis, and Rhetorical Structure Theory. We will get acquainted with each of these approaches (on the basis of readings and short introductory lectures), and we will test their applicability and plausibility on the basis of an analysis of Dutch texts and conversations (corpus analysis).
