The course covers three domains:
(1) The dynamics of Dutch in Flanders & The Netherlands
(2) Language variation and linguistic indexicality in audiovisual media
(3) Dutch (and Frisian + Afrikaans) in multilingual communities: (a) Dutch in present-day Brussels, (b) the vitality of Frisian and the position of Dutch in Friesland, (c) Afrikaans in multilingual South Africa
Every module leads to a specific task, i.e. for the first two domains a small case study, for the third theme a literature study.
