3. Course contents *

The course consists of two parts:
In the first part, the political system, the legal system, the system of social security, the education system and the economic background in German-speaking countries are discussed. We will focus on Austria with these topics and learn more about this country in general. Attention is paid to both content and terminology and we work  in consideration of translating and interpreting.

In the part "Gesellschaft und Literatur"
We deal with the period from the end of WWI to WWII. The focus is on the social dimensions of the literature of the "Weimarer Republik", the influence of the consequences of WWI on German society and culture. By means of lectures and the handling of selected texts and films, students get a varied picture of the time. Finally, the cultural climate after WWII is also sketched and examined: language skepticism, "LTI" and "Kahlschlagliteratur" are discussed. The students receive an introduction to film analysis versus text analysis.
