3. Course contents *

The course consist of 3 weeks.

Theoretical course paediatrics: Twenty four lectures will discuss most prevalent diseases in childhood in the first two weeks. Information is based on Lissauer textbook 5 th edition and Powerpoints will highlight the essentials and clarify.
Topics  neonatal problems, surgical managment of congenital abnormalities of the urinary and gastrointestinal tract, gastro-intestinal pathology, oncological problems and emergencies , from febrile convulsions to epilepsy, headache, muscular disorders, acute life threatening conditions,  acute and chronic respiratory disorders, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, living with congenital heart defect , first line diagnostics and management of childhood haematuria, proteinuria and causes of renal insufficiency, orthopedic problems, immune deficiencies, anaphylaxis and allergy, skin disorders, hematology, diabetes and thyroid disease, initial approach to metabolic disease, osteo articular disease, pain management and end of life decisisons.

The last week is exclusively dedicated to RESPONSE CLASSES discussing Clinical case vignettes. In small working groups clinical cases are discussed and prepared at home  for plenary presentation to fellow students. Integrating the knowledge  obtained from the lectures and the textbook will highlight and test  the most important study aims of this course as mentioned above.
The lessons are  supplemented with integrated hands-on sessions of the teaching staff of the clinical line.
