3. Course contents *

We understand modernity as the starting point of an alternative scopic history. Protagonists such as Benjamin, Breton, Brecht, Epstein, Kracauer and Warburg have developed a performative logic, based on contradiction and potentiality. We will trace that artistic-intellectual logic, with reference to the artistic practices of modernity (popular theatre, early cinema) and its specific concepts/strategies (allegory, aura, charisma, pathos, photogénie).
