3. Course contents *

The course starts with a general presentation of lexical semantics, with a special emphasis on recent cognitive approcahes, and with attention to the question how we have to represent the meanings of words (and other lexical units) to explain the high context-sensiblity of interpretation (the fact that the intepretation of words and other lexical elemnts tends to contnuously adapt itself to their context of use).

In the second part of the course, we will look into polyselmy and the interpretation of metaphorical and metonymical use of language, but also into the high importance (and relevance) of words and their meaning in a broader social context. We will thus, amongst other things, look into the relevance and functioning of word meaning  in political framing (and if possible into phenomena such as fake news).
