3. Course contents *

This course aims to give an insight into the molecular biophysics, physiology and pharmacology of ion channels and receptors and other transport systems in biological membranes.

Theoretical part 

  • Experimental procedures: voltage clamp, patch clamp, noise analyse, FRET
  • Molecular biology and diversity of ion channels
  • Biophysical mechanisms of permeation and gating
  • Computational biophysical models of voltage-gating
  • Molecular structure-function analysis and pharmacology
  • Crystal structure of ion channels
  • Channel disorders: congenital and acquired disorders of excitability

Laboratory:

  • Patch clamp experiments and analysis of cells expressing voltage-gated ion channels
  • Use of computer models of gating, permeation and neural activitity
