3. Course contents *

The research master course Religion and Secularisation is devoted to a critical analysis of the philosophical discourse on reenchantment. The main objectives of this analysis are, first, to disentangle the different meanings of the concept of reenchantment in current philosophical discourse and, second, to examine how strategies or processes of reenchantment relate to a previous condition of disenchantment.

In 2017-18, the inquiry was focused on the relation between magic and modern science. The lessons were integrated in a series of three separate study days, covering the following topics:

  • Reenchantment in a Scientific Worldview

In 2018-19, the focus will be on the issue of reenchantment in the context of the reformation and modernization of religion. The lessons will be integrated in a series of study days and one two-day international conference. More details will follow soon.
