3. Course contents *

A number of (relatively simple) products are made available to the students. The products have at least a mechanically driven operation, an energetic action, a metabolic activity, a measurement or control function, a data communication function, or a combination of these. (For example, a wireless computer mouse, an optical reader for the electricity meter, an inkjet printercartridge, a battery charger, etc.) The student is given the following assignment:

1. Reverse Engineering
How was the product manufactured and constructed?
Measuring and drawing the parts + Bill of Materials
Description and specifications of parts
Interaction Diagrams

2. Technology Description
How does the product work?
System function diagram, Product architecture

3. System Evaluation
What is the added value for the user?
How efficient is this solution?

4. New Product Definition and Specific Customer Needs
How can you optimize the product for a particular application or market?
