3. Course contents *

During the growth internship, the students practice at a more in-depth level how they can / should function as a professional teacher. There are two growth stages, each of which counts 5 credits. A growth internship is taken for each chosen teaching methodology. If a student follows only one teaching methodology, then two growth stages are taken for this teaching methodology.

The allocation to internship schools is based on the availability of internship schools, taking into account a number of the student's desiderata.

A different school is assigned per growth traineeship, where the student gives 15 traineeship lessons, preceded by 4 lesson observations. A growth internship takes place in regular secondary education and is linked to the required certificate of competence of the teaching methodology. The internship can take place in aso, tso, bso or kso, depending on the available offer in the assigned internship school. The student makes agreements about this with the school / mentor. For students with one teaching methodology, the two growth stages are preferably taken in two different educational contexts (ASO on the one hand, BSO, Kso or TSO on the other). For the following subject didactics, the internship can take place outside of secondary education: law, Spanish, Dutch non-home language, philosophy, health sciences, computer science.

Supervision at the internship schools is provided by subject mentors. In practice, these are the subject teachers who the students teach. From the university, the student is supervised and monitored by the subject didactician and the practical assistants. The growth internship is a continuum in which the student is strongly supervised in the beginning and in which he / she acts more independently as the internship progresses.

For each growth internship, the students compile an internship map.

The evaluation of the growth internship is done by the subject didactician, who forms an overall picture of the internships based on internship visits, the internship map, information from the mentors and the student himself. For practical reasons it is in many cases not possible to resit the growth internship during the second examination period.
