3. Course contents *

The course aims to provide the students insight into the substantive law aspects of the internal market, through an analysis of the Treaty provisions concerning free movement of goods and persons (services, establishment and workers; including the right to move and reside freely as a citizen of the ). The basic principles of the internal market will be discovered through discussion of the case law of the Court of Justice. Not only the negative market integration is discussed, but also the completion of the internal market through positive instruments (e.g. harmonisation). Specific topics relating to consumer protection will help to clarify the general principles and the interaction between negative and positive integration and between economic and non-economic aspects.

The Advanced Course consists of 45 h which take the form of tutorials and include the examining of case law and legislation in class. Recent developments in European free movement law, including free movement of persons (economic and non-economic: citizenship) and freedom to provide services will be analyzed. The main focus will be on free movement of goods.
