In the Master year SEW the multi(bi)disciplinary character of the programm is continued. In this course module a specific theme 'the health care sector', will be studied from an economic perspective and a sociologic perspective together with the students from the respective master programmes. In addition to the two course modules (which are slightly reduced to 4SP each), the cluster also consist of a research assignment which makes a systhesis of the two perspectives (also 4 SP).
The three parts of the cluster, each having a weight of 4 studpy points consists more specifically of:
1.Health and well being (state of the art) (N. Van Eekert and E. Wouters). More information w.r.t. this part of the course is available at the study guide of this course module.
the students are exempted from the guest lecture.
2. Health Economics (D. De Graeve). More information w.r.t. this part of the course is available at the study guide of this course module.
the students get an additional topic to increase the weight of the economics part to 4 credits.
3. Synthesis research assignment
The common multidisciplinary research assignment will be coached by the lecturers of the cluster. In the assignment students will integrate sociologic and economic articles an oral presentation (for students and lecturers) and into a written text. The topic of the assignment is choosen during the first semester and first preparations are done. The assignment is due at the end of the second semester.
The examens of the theoretical parts of the thematic clusters will be organized together with those for the other students of the course modules in January (In-depth Study of the Sociology and Policy of Care and Welfare) and June (Health Economics). In addition there will be an evaluation of the synthesis research assignment in June. The three parts have an equal weight in the total score.
