This course content consists of two parts: Bridges and Tunnels
We will start with the conceptual design and power operation of a bridge, in order to discuss the different types of bridges with the structure of the groundwork (abutments , wing walls, pillars and supporting equipment) and the superstructure ( slab , beam grids , chutes, vault , arch, tui ) and their respective materials (concrete , steel) and effect (movable bridges).
Different operating principles of bridges have a particular focus on concrete: pured in situ, precast ,scaffoldfree extension and the slide method.
In the second part of the course, the most common (and recent) tunnelmethods will be discussed: execution, dimensioning and safety features.
During the course there will be guest lectures and also a presentation of the group projects.
