The first section of this course will deal with the methodology of a road construction design. Here, we will take into account the braking distance, curves and ramps. The geometry of intersections and roundabouts will be the last part of this section.
In the second section we will pay attention to the different materials that are being used in road constructions, specifically the hardening. Durability, noise and safety are the three most important factors that will be held into account. Innovations are discussed extensively, from structures (use of geogrids, asphalt solar collectors) to materials (polymer bitumen as a solution for rutting in heavy-loaded roads).
The student will work in team on a specific case and will also report on that.
