3. Course contents *

First of all, a systematic overview is given of the most important philosophical thinkers and movements. Those that are most relevant to economic issues are dealt with in greater detail. Therefore, special thematic attention is given to how the Greek concept of 'oikonomia' evolved to the current concept of economy, to the distinction between positive and normative economy, to the philosophical origin of instrumentalism, utilitarianism and rationality in economy, and to the philosophical roots of economic globalisation.Particular attention is also given to what prominent philosophers have to say about economically important concepts such as needs, work, power and justice.
