A practical project urges the student to analyse a real business problem within an organisation for at least four weeks. The student translates the business problem into a clear research question that he or she describes within the existing literature. Data collection through among others surveys, interviews or existing databases, data analysis, analysis of information systems, etc. enable the student to make a concise summary of the project and to formulate practical and realistic recommendations based on various assumptions. Finally, the student finishes the project with a critical reflection on the own learning process.
In this way, students are introduced to the world beyond the classroom in an interactive way and they learn to apply the theoretical knowledge in practice. During the practical project, the student will be supervised by a responsible within the organization, the company supervisor, and a supervisor from the faculty, the faculty supervisor. Once during the course of the project, the student will attend a coaching session organised by the coordinator. The practical project results in a final written report that must be orally defended by the student before the end of the academic year.
- A practical project can be performed in the first and / or second semester, and also in the summer preceding the academic year.
- The student can decide for itself when to carry out the project as long as the organisation agrees.
- Prior to enrollment for this course, the student should get in touch with the coordinator (through praktijkproject.tew@uantwerpen. be) to express his or her motivation for the business project. The student should get in touch before September 20. Subsequently the student must provide a project description and a plan of approach.
- There are different deadlines that the student should take into account (check Blackboard for more information).
- The integration of a practical project should not prevent students from attending classes.
