International entrepreneurship aims at discovering and exploring new innovative business opportunities beyond national borders. This course seeks to provide an understanding of international entrepreneurial activities, its forms, drivers, and consequences in different economies, both in a Western as well as in an Emerging Markets.
The course is structured along two main parts: International Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurial Businesses in Emerging Markets. The first part focuses on the international entrepreneur, i.e. the actor. It introduces and critically discusses models and theories of international entrepreneurship strategy, opportunity recognition, inter-organizational relations, knowledge networks and international entrepreneurship dynamics. The second part takes a comparative, and distinctly applied approach. It focuses on international entrepreneurs and their global corporations competing in emerging market contexts, facing considerable pitfalls and risks like corruption and intellectual property theft. Moreover, local entrepreneurs now start to expand beyond their emerging market borders and start to compete on a global scale.
