The course intends to introduce students to the role of transport and logistics in a changing economy. During lectures by Chinese professors as well as a number of selected company visits, students get the unique opportunity to gain a practical and in-depth view of the rapidly developing transport sector in China.
The intensive scholarly mentoring at home and during the stay in Chongqing allows students to reflect on the gained experiences from a critical viewpoint and to further develop their knowledge and research skills in the field of transport economics. In addition to gaining a global insight into current transport issues and development potentials of the sector in China, the close cooperation with Chongqing University ensures that students get plenty of opportunities to interact with local experts and to take a deep dive into the Chinese (business) culture.
Before the start of the summer school (usually in April/May), the students attend two sessions as an introduction to China and China’s economy. In September, the students participate in lectures at Chongqing University, visit companies located in Chongqing and go on cultural visits for 12 days. Students have to prepare the company visits in form of on-site presentation in teams of two. To disseminate the knowledge gained during lectures and company visits, an individual paper on a specific topic (to be approved by supervisor) will be prepared and orally defended after the summer school in October.
