This summer school focuses on ‘doing business in China’. In preparation of the summer school, the students write a preparatory document in which they briefly explain the topic for their project work. They can look for sources and information in the reading list and through additional research. This document is the basis to look for additional information for their paper during and after the summer school. The students work in pairs on the project work.
During the summer school the students participate in lectures, visit several companies and other places in Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai and go on cultural visits for two weeks. The lectures and visits not only highlight the corporate environment, but also shed a light on the political, social and cultural environment. In that way students get a real in-depth picture of the opportunities and pitfalls that organisations face when doing business in China. The students have to integrate all the information they receive into a test at the end of the summer school.
After the summer school, the students write an individual reflection and an academic report that they briefly present on the basis of a pitch in October. The report meets all the academic standards, but offers at the same time room for a more creative approach through for example a video, interviews, figures, etc.
