Students chose the topic for their Master Project in the first semester of the first year. They will carry out research into this topic under the supervision of a promoter. The subject can be chosen from a list provided by research groups within and outside the Biology Department. Students can also propose their own subject; in that case they must find a suitable promoter.
Once the research aims have been agreed upon, the student will read all relevant literature and most often will carry out practical scientific activities, such as experiments, observations or model development. This is typically done individually, but under supervision of a promoter.
After data collection and the (statistical) analyses, the student writes a scientific report on the findings. He/she also presents the results of the work orally, during the public defence.
Details of the procedure can be found in the Guidelines for the Master Project on Blackboard and the Department's website.
