3. Course contents *

The course consists of two parts: the first part, based on lectures aims to provide insight into landscape structure and important landscape-forming forces and general principles of landscape ecology. In the second part, students prepare, in groups, a landscape ecological study of a region near Antwerp. A synthesis is prepared using different thematic maps and literature review. During visits to the chosen region, these results are compared to the actual landscape and further refined. In the final report the relation between the basic natural and anthropogenic landscape units and the abiotic parameters of the environment are discussed.
