Families are changing at an unprecedented pace. Classic gender and household patterns disappear and are transformed into new ones. Studies in family dynamics keep up with these developments by mapping longitudinal patterns in family life courses or gaining in-depth insights by use of qualitative (multi-actor) interviews in families.
The Lab Family Dynamics aims to introduce a qualitative rsearch lab in the broad field of family and life course studies. The focus in the lab will lie on qualitative methodology to study families (topic to be determined every academic year).
Students perform Grounded Theory analysis on an existing database with interviews with families. Students perform (coding) exercises on the data in NVivo and work towards an axial and selective coding on a predefined theme on which they develop an own research question
