At the start of this course the student should have acquired the following competences:

Materials' science, mechanics, strength of materials, mechanical engineering, computer aided design (CAD) and fluid mechanics.

- The student analyzes, with finite element techniques: linear static determined problems, contact situations, vibrations and fatigue problems.
- The student performs thermal and flow analyzes.
- The student analyzes kinematic and dynamic problems.
- The student validates (synthesizes and evaluates) preceding analyzes through classic calculations (knowledge acquired during the courses enlisted in the prerequisites).
- The student acquires independently new information on the basis of English manuals.
- The student interprets and analyzes the employed calculation methods in order to apply them, with possible reservations, for practical applications. Mainly with the aim to select, to dimension or to control those components.
- The student is capable to search for data of machine elements and to interpret correctly the offered norms, tables and graphs.

During the practical classes CAE we will deal with structural analyses, flow analyses (CFD) and thermal analyses. With the aid of finite element techniques we will study: linear static determined problems, contactsituations, vibrations, fatigue problems, ... There will also be paid attention to mapping, where the results of preceding analyses will be used as input for stress- or a distortion analyses. In the third part, we will deal with kinematic and dynamic simulations so as to get to Mechanical Event Simulation.

During the lectures of machine construction, the following topics concerning dimensioning, control and selection of engine products will be explained: spiral bearings, bearings, belt drives, spur gears, ...

During the exercises the focus will be on the application of the theory via problems, as they occur in reality.
