3. Course contents *

A short historic overview, some definitions and data will be necessary to give the students an overview of the robot in an industrial setting. In the part about the mechanical structure of an industrial robot, a connection is made between armconfigurations, coordinate systems and the description of locations, speeds and accelerations. These aspects will be illustrated by different industrial robots in the technological center. The different methods to make the TCP (Tool Center Point) follow a specific path, will be discussed. Because some specific mechanic components (harmonic drives, cyclo drives, ...) are used very often, these will be further discussed. With a description of the different effectors (claws and machines), we move on to the possible applications of industrial robots. The calibration of a robot installation and the used equipment are treated. Based on a movie, we will look at the aspects that are important when using robots.
