3. Course contents *

Industrial Networks: In this course we will apply a Profibus DP, industrial ethernet TCP/IP and PROFINET on a S7 PLC-system. The student will have the opportunity to practically configure and test different network systems in a Siemens S7-environment.

Industrial Engineering: Currently, it is very important in the industry to collect productiondata from operating systems. The most common reason for this is the development of an MES (Manufacturing Execution System). On the one hand, the objective of the MES is having the possibility to determine the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of a production unit, but on the other hand also to dispose of a track-and trace system. In this course, a limited amount of time will be dedicated to the explanation of how an information flow can be set up between PLC’s and Microsoft tool such as .Net, Visual Basic, Excel, Access and other programming environment as LabVIEW, with the aid of an open industrial communication structure OPC.

The basic principles of Profibus DP and the situation of the 7-layered communication model OSI
The basic principles of Ethernet TCP/IP and the situation of the 7-layered communication model OSI
The basic principles of PROFINET and the situation of the 7-layered communication model OSI
The different functional blocks that are necessary for the TCP/IP and ISO communication will be profoundly seen in this course.

Applications such as linking the PLC’s S7 reciprocally, but also to the in-and output devices of other distributors on the basis of the before mentioned standard protocols, will be dealt with in detail.

For the part of Industrial Engineering, the student will receive some developed examples with a program coder. With the aid of these examples, the student is allowed to think of an own application that allows an elementary information flow between PLC-hardware and software platforms in order to set up the reporting and process visualization. The student has the total freedom to chose the hardware (PLC) and software platforms. The student is allowed to work on this individually or in group.
