During Groeistage Duits internship, students will practice how they can/should function as a teacher. For each of their two subjects there will be an internship. If a student has only one subject, then two internships will be done for the same subject.
The allocation to internship schools is based on availability of internship schools, taking into account a number of desiderata of the student.
For each internship, a different school is allocated, at which the student gives 15 lessons, preceded by 4 lesson observations. A traineeship takes place in regular secondary education and is linked to the certificate of competence (vereist bekwaamheidsbewijs) of the subject. The internship can take place in aso, tso, bso or kso, depending on availability in the allocated school. For students with one subject, both internships are preferably done in two different educational contexts (aso combined with either bso, kso or tso).
Supervision at the internship school(s) is carried out by (a) mentor teacher(s). In practice, these are the subject teachers for/with whom the students teach. From the university, the student is supervised and followed up by the professor and their assistant(s). The internship is a continuum in which the student is strongly supervised in the beginning and in which he/she acts more independently as the internship progresses.
